<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - Herbal Tea ~ humble plant medicine in its most simple, accessible form.</image:title>
<image:caption>Herbal teas are otherwise known as infusions, made by steeping fresh or dried plant material in hot water to extract the tasty (and often medicinal) water-soluble plant compounds. Best practice is to ensure the brewing vessel has a lid or cover, as many of those fragrant volatile oils can escape with the steam and we want all of that herby goodness staying in your cup! Read on for my top 5 teas to help you to wind down in the evening. The teas mentioned are all best served neat, without any milk added.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - 1. Passionflower Passiflora incarnata</image:title>
<image:caption>Passionflower is known as a hypnotic & sedative in traditional herbal medicine - I mean just look at that flower and you are mesmerised! A beautiful herb for the racing mind that can’t wind down or switch off.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - 2. Chamomile Matricaria recutita</image:title>
<image:caption>Chamomile is a classic herbal tea - great for both adults and children. It is renowned for calming the gut and soothing the nervous system. Be careful not to brew too long or it can become bitter. The simple combination of chamomile and passionflower is a wonderful evening brew.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - 3. Valerian root Valeriana officinalis</image:title>
<image:caption>Valerian has a bit of a nickname as being like a ‘herbal valium’, but it also has a reputation for its pungent fragrance. I’ve known dedicated fans to drink it as a solo brew, however it is usually best tolerated in combination with other more palatable herbs that mask the strong flavour.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - 4. Lavender Lavandula officinalis</image:title>
<image:caption>Ahhh lavender - I think just about everyone has experienced its soothing fragrance and relaxing properties at some point. I personally like just a hint of lavender in a sleep tea blend, but others report that they love it on its own as a standalone brew!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mel’s Top 5 Teas for Sleep Support - 5. Lemon Balm Melissa officinalis</image:title>
<image:caption>Lemon balm has an affinity for both the mind and the gut, much like chamomile, with soothing and calming effects on both. It has a distinctly fresh, lemony flavour that works nicely on its own, as well as in combination with the herbs mentioned above. Lemon balm is super easy to grow and fresh-picked leaves can be used for tea if you have it in the garden.</image:caption>

When it is holding its form and almost cooked through, turn it over to finish cooking the other side. Remove from the pan and place onto your wrap. Add your cheese, rocket and sauce on top of the egg. Secure the wrap by folding the bottom up and then bringing in the left and right sides. Place in the frypan with the folded sides down to seal the wrap closed. Allow to brown for about 2 minutes, then flip to lightly toast the other side.</image:title>

<image:title>Recipes - Basic Overnight Oats - Overnight oats are a meal preppers dream! They were a staple food for me as a busy student with long days on campus and frequently served as breakfast, lunch or any meal on the go really. Just pop 1/2 a cup of base muesli mix into a container or jar, cover well with your milk of choice and pop in the fridge overnight. You can also add your favourite kefir or yoghurt (dairy or non-dairy, totally up to you).</image:title>
<image:caption>Just make sure you remember to grab it as you rush out the door in the morning!</image:caption>

<image:caption>1/2 cup rolled oats 1 tbsp chia seeds 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup milk of choice (you can add a serve of protein powder or collagen to this to meet your protein targets) Add all of the ingredients to a jar/container & stir, or pop the lid on and shake to combine. Leave in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight. Add toppings to serve. You can also experiment with different flavour variations and toppings, by adding various fruits, nuts and seeds. <image:title>Recipes - Ginger Spiked Sweet Potato Mash - Ginger + Sweet potato?</image:title>
<image:caption>Trust me on this one… it seemed a little odd when I first came across the idea, but my gosh it actually works! Ginger is one of the most fabulous anti-inflammatory spices, which we could all benefit from adding into our diet - however I find that for those accustomed to a standard western diet, many struggle to find ways to do so. This is a simple way to spice up your mash, whilst also adding some extra colour to your plate.</image:caption>

<image:title>Recipes - ‘Bench’ Muesli - You can mix and match to suit your tastes and what you have on hand, but the idea is to maintain a solid base of oats + seeds and/or nuts for a decent balance of carbs, protein, healthy fat and fibre compared to oats on their own.</image:title>
